<!--We're coming up on the 30th anniversary of the first computer virus, called Brain. By two brothers in Lahore, Pakistan, who still do business as Brain Computer Services. In one version of the story, they were used to UNIX and wrote it to show how shockingly bad the new Microsoft computers security was. In another version, they were attempting to track copyright theft. One person can have multiple motivations, and there were two of them; likely both versions of the story are true. They did not have malicious intent, of that there's no doubt: they wrote their address right into the boot sector of the infected floppy disks The point is that horribly insecure things can become global standards.-->

<!-- So who am I to come to a conference of web development conference and talk about the future or the present? If you've been doing web development for two months, you know things are always changing! When i see this on a web site now (and this screenshot is from this morning), i don't wait for Flash to load—it won't anymore, after i uninstalled it due to a security vulnerability a month or so back—i wait for "Just Kidding" to come up. It didn't. So i've followed the time-honored practice of making people forget about my qualifications by showing scary pictures—I'm referring to the plane crash, not this Flash loading screen—but as I am going to advocate strongly for coming up with business models that respect people's rights and increases their power, you should know that i generally have ideas for respecting people's rights and increasing their power which are not remotely connected to a plan for making money. I am co-founder of not one but two failed startups (and one successful cooperative). However, I have successfully forecast the present before: I've done web development for 15 years and I have never, once, used Flash.-->
